Lifelong Interest in Art
Growing up in the prairie grass and farm fields of the Midwest, Katie learned about God's creation when her father took her on walks and talked about what they saw. Birds and animals, trees, water, and weather patterns were all interesting, but birds and animals became Katie's favorite. Katie admired her Daddy's oil paintings of deer, bald eagles, Canada geese, and blue jays. When she was little, she was allowed to "paint" on her father's unfinished paintings with a dry fan brush, and that sparked a lifelong desire to paint on her own someday.
For many years she drew with pencils and colored pencils, but now since 2021 she has taken up watercolor painting and is still very much in the learning curve and enjoys practicing new skills in that field.
Though John and Katie both grew up in the Midwest, they have roots in the South and have developed a deep love for the West - particularly the mountains of Colorado and the beautiful country of Idaho and Montana in the Northwest. Katie takes every opportunity to sketch and paint throughout their frequent travels across the country.
